Experience

Biography

My name is Dee Barnes and I am a candidate for the Fresno County Democratic Central Committee, Supervisorial District 3.  I grew up in Merced County but Fresno has been my home since 1977.  I have been married to my husband, Jeffrey, for 41 years and we have 3 grown children.  Our youngest daughter, son-in-law and 4 grandchildren live in Fresno so I am very passionate about the issues facing our Valley and want to do my part to make to make this a better community for everyone.

I have been a registered Democrat since I turned 18 in 1973 and vote in every election.  I started attending the monthly meetings of the Fresno County Democratic Central Committee (FCDCC) in 2013 during the Measure G campaign and special election to prevent Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin from privatizing residential solid waste.  For the past 3 years I have been serving as an alternate for incumbent Chuck Krugman and am currently a member of the Candidate Recruitment and Development Committee.  I decided to run so I can serve as a voting member to better represent the Democrats living in District 3.

In 2015 I was elected to be a delegate to the California Democratic Party representing Assembly District 31 and attended the last 2 Democratic State Conventions.  I have been actively involved in local politics and will continue to participate in fundraisers, phone-banking, and precinct walking.

I believe the FCDCC needs to continue and strengthen their efforts to encourage the voters in Fresno County to become informed, involved, and active in local politics.  We have been doing a good job of registering voters, especially new citizens at the monthly naturalization ceremonies.  However, we have a lot of work to do when it comes to educating Fresno County Democrats about local issues and making sure that people actually vote in every election.

If elected, I will work to make sure the FCDCC is doing everything possible to accomplish the goals stated in our mission statement.
