My Top 3 Priorities

  • Maintain a balanced budget to meet the needs of providing a high-quality education for all students while maintaining a prudent reserve.
  • Maintain and support a highly-qualified workforce to provide a rigorous academic program, top notch extra-curricular activities, up-to-date technology, and continious improvement for all students.
  • To develop sustainability plan to ensure we are providing the best possible education for all students as our district reaches its capacity to build new schools and we possibly move to a declining enrollment.

Experience

Biography

I have been privileged to serve on the Rocklin School Board for twenty-five years. I was first elected in 1989 and have served on the Board since then except for a two year break. My four children attended Rocklin Schools and now my granddaughter is a proud Bulldog at Rocklin Elementary. My husband volunteers weekly and I also volunteer occasionally.

I have been asked why I am running for re-election and it has been suggested it might be time for someone new to serve on the Board. But I sincerely believe I have the experience, expertise, and dedication to continue to be an effective board member. Further, I believe it is important for each of us to find an appropriate way to serve our community, for me, serving on the School Board is the best way for me to serve and utilize my skills.

I have spent my career in education from early education thru K-12. I have worked at the local and state level and participated in federal programs as well. Over the years I have severed in leadership positions in the California Department of Education, Secretary of Education and currently as the Executive Director of First 5 California. I have visited schools in all 58 California counties and can tell you our schools not only excel in the greater Sacramento region but across the state as well.

As a Board Member I understand the need to spend our tax dollars wisely. I do not believe that spending more money or taxing ourselves will necessarily solve every problem. As an effective Board member I will work with my colleagues to set goals, analyze the needs of the district, evaluate the current programs, prioritize our needs and create a budget that is balanced and implements our priorities.

Together over the years we have created a high quality school system, with a highly qualified workforce, safe and modern facilities, well-rounded and rigorous curriculum, extraordinary extra-curricular activities, championship athletic programs and strong partnerships with families and local business. I could not be prouder to be part of this system.

With all that success, there is still more work to do. If re-elected my priorities will be to:

·        Continue to provide a well-rounded high quality education for all students that includes a rigorous curriculum, arts and physical education, and extra-curricular activities.

·        Maintain a balanced budget and a prudent reserve while paying competitive wages for our employees.

·        Strive for continuous improvement by analyzing and evaluating our programs to ensure they meet the needs of our students.

I ask for your support to continue to make Rocklin Unified School District the best for our children.
