Biography

Steven was born at French Hospital on Hill Street in Chinatown in 1981.  His parents are ethnic Chinese who were refugees of war.  Steven spent his youth in South Los Angeles and went to high school in Montebello.  He graduated from UC Berkeley and the UCLA School of Law. Steven currently works as a Deputy District Attorney for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office, assigned as a felony prosecutor. Prior to becoming a prosecutor, he served in the U.S. Army. He started his military career as an Army intelligence officer and was selected to be the Company Commander of a counterintelligence unit. From 2012 to 2013, Steven deployed to the war in Afghanistan as a JAG officer in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He has served in the U.S. Army Reserve for over 14 years and holds the rank of Major.  As a JAG officer, he advised Brigadier Generals on congressional appropriations and oversight, federal laws and regulations on wartime power, investigations of senior officers, international law on treaties, and the federal code of ethics. Steven currently lives in Highland Park.
